4 Tactics to Make Fitness a Steady Part of Your Lifestyle
Fitness is important for everybody, but it can be tough to stick with a workout routine if regular exercise is not already a part of your lifestyle. In fact, many people want to get fit and go to the gym… They just have a hard time getting started!
The best way to forge a regular fitness habit is by making exercise a cornerstone of your lifestyle and daily routine.
Try these 4 tactics that'll help make fitness your M.O...
4. Create a Hierarchy of Goals
Firstly, try creating a hierarchy of your goals and expectations. For example, your ultimate goal may be to lose 50 pounds. Put that at the top of a hierarchy you draw on a piece of paper.
Next, visualize the steps you need to do to lose those 50 pounds. Draw them beneath the ultimate goal, with examples like “Learn to lift 150 pounds” and “Eat less than 2000 cal per day”.
Then beneath those goals, you can put the individual steps you need to reach the intermediate objectives. In this way, you’ll be able to clearly visualize what you need to do to reach your ultimate goal. Each step you take, you’ll also be able to see yourself climbing the pyramid to success!
This is a great way to increase your motivation, especially if you aren’t naturally motivated by exercise.
3. Find a Buddy or Join a Class
It’s a lot easier to work out if you have someone to share in the pain with. To that end, try to find a buddy to go to the gym with you, or sign up for an exercise class at your local gym.
Either way, you and your friends or classmates can help keep each other accountable, ensuring that you meet your goals and give each rep your all. It’s a lot harder to let someone else down than it is to let yourself down, at least when it comes to exercise!
2. Put on Your Workout Clothes Early
Have trouble hitting the gym early before work? Try sleeping in your exercise clothes or putting on your gym clothes first thing before doing anything else.
It’s common knowledge that dressing for your goals can be a powerful psychological tool. In this way, wearing exercise clothes more regularly can help you feel more fit and active, improving your motivation to go on a run or complete your gym sets.
1. Focus on Consistency, Not Intensity
Lastly, your goal should be to make fitness a major part of your lifestyle, not to become a gym master right off the bat. With this in mind, you should prioritize consistency instead of intensity with every workout you complete.
Make sure that you go to the gym, period. Don’t worry if you only go to the gym for 45 minutes or if you only go twice per week. That’s far better than never going at all!
Over time, fitness will become a more ingrained part of your lifestyle and you’ll be able to up the intensity accordingly.
So there you have it, 4 effective tactics for getting in the groove of working out regularly!
After just a couple of weeks, you’ll start to notice yourself getting hooked on the energy boost and feel-good endorphins you get from exercise. And chances are, you’ll see all the physical results too, and that will get you even more ramped up. Here’s to creating a lifestyle that centers around looking and feeling amazing…
